Where CalXd fits

CalXd is a calorie tracking app for people who lift and want to hit their calorie and macro targets every day. Type "200 g chicken breast with 100 g rice" and CalXd estimates calories, protein, fats and carbs. You can also take a photo, record your voice or scan a barcode.

At most once every 7 days, CalXd reads your weight trend over the last 3 weeks. When there is enough data, it suggests a new calorie target and you decide whether to apply it. The first suggestion comes no earlier than 4 weeks into a goal, and there is none while you use a target you set by hand.

Your weight shows on a chart with a 7-day average line. You can export your weight and meal history as CSV. CalXd shows no ads.

  • There is no free plan: the download is free, but using the app needs Pro or the App Store trial.
  • It runs on iPhone only. There is no Android app and no web app.
  • There is no food database to browse and no food search.
  • There are no recipes, no meal plans and no community.

Where Yazio fits

Yazio is free to download, and its App Store listing describes a free calorie counter. AI photo logging is in Pro. If you want to count calories without paying and you search foods in a database, Yazio has a free plan for that and CalXd does not (checked October 2026).

[1][2]

Yazio Pro gives access to over 3,000 recipes and grocery lists, every intermittent fasting plan and activity sync with Fitbit, Garmin or Polar. CalXd has none of these. Pro also lets you plan meals ahead.

[3]

Yazio runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, in 20 languages. It connects to Apple Health: it reads workouts and body weight and writes nutrients there. It adds activity from Apple Health to your calorie target unless you switch that off.

Which is better for someone who lifts and tracks macros?

It depends on how you log food. If you would rather type "200 g chicken breast with 100 g rice" or take a photo, you use an iPhone and you want target suggestions from your weight trend, look at CalXd. If you want a free plan, search in a large food database, recipes or Android, look at Yazio.

Does Yazio count calories from a photo for free?
